Paige’s Perspective
As it turns out, sometimes a Nashville ice storm can change your life.
In January 2024, Nashville was frozen over, and my birthday trip to New York had just been canceled. Bored and stuck at home, I found myself scrolling through Hinge when I noticed a guy named Corey had messaged me—not once, but twice. His second message was an invitation to go sledding, and something about his persistence made me finally write back.
We decided to meet for coffee, despite the roads still being covered in snow and ice. Corey even borrowed a friend’s truck to come pick me up. I showed up in leggings and a long coat, figuring it was just a casual coffee date. But I remember getting a phone call from him before he arrived and thinking, “Well, he has a really cute voice.”
Coffee turned into hours of effortless conversation. He was handsome, funny, and easy to talk to. By the end of the date, I remember thinking that even if I didn’t know where this was going, there was definitely something special about him.
That evening, Corey invited me to a bonfire with friends. He told me they were making “stromboli,” a Pennsylvania favorite that I somehow confused with soup. I brought my friend Madeline, and we spent the next hour watching Corey and his friends frantically try to finish cooking dinner while pretending everything was going according to plan. Between the stromboli, buffalo chicken dip, golf balls hit off the backyard tee, board games, and a bonfire in the middle of a snowstorm, it felt like the most unexpectedly perfect Nashville winter night.
By the end of the weekend, Corey had completely swept me off my feet. I was secretly worried he wouldn’t text me the next day—but he did. And we’ve been inseparable ever since.
What started as a canceled trip, an ice storm, and a message I almost didn’t answer became the beginning of our greatest adventure.
Corey's Perspective
When I moved to Nashville, I only knew one person—my best friend, Craig—who was kind enough to let me move into his spare room while I got settled. New city, no job yet, and not a lot of people to hang out with had me thinking it might be time to put myself out there, so I downloaded Hinge to see what would happen.
To be honest, it wasn’t exactly a huge success. There were a few conversations here and there, but nothing that ever felt like a real connection. I was actually starting to second guess whether getting on the app was even worth it.
Then, out of nowhere, Paige messaged me about wanting to go golfing and drink High Noons in the golf cart.
Needless to say, that got my attention.
We started talking outside of Hinge, and while I was definitely interested, she kept me guessing. She played a little hard to get, and I could tell she had her guard up. Thankfully, I found out my other roommate happened to know her, which made for a pretty great icebreaker and helped get the conversation rolling.
After about a week of talking, she started opening up more, and despite the giant Nashville snowstorm and the fact that it was the day after her birthday, she agreed to meet me for coffee at Red Bicycle.
From the moment we sat down, we clicked.
She was beautiful, funny, easy to talk to, and I honestly didn’t want the conversation to end. Even though our coffee date was pretty short, I walked away thinking, “This girl is different.”
Apparently, I wasn’t the only one who thought so.
That night, Paige and her best friend, Madeline, came over to hang out with Craig and me around the bonfire. I’d like to think sharing my blanket and keeping her warm earned me a few extra points. Somewhere between the coffee and the bonfire, I knew I wanted to keep getting to know her.
As time went on, it became more and more obvious that Paige wasn’t like anyone I’d ever met. She challenged me, made me laugh, and made me want to be the best version of myself. That’s when I decided to go all in and make sure she knew I was serious about building something real together.
Now, years later, she can still be stubborn (and she’ll be the first to admit it), but she’s also still the witty, beautiful girl I met for coffee after a snowstorm. She makes me feel special in all the same ways she did on day one.
And that’s why I love her so much.
